Utku Varlık, one of the prominent representatives of the 1968 Generation artists in Turkey, who has been living in Paris for about fifty years, shares the people and events that left a mark on his life in his book titled "Zero Hypothesis: Fragments," published simultaneously with his exhibition "Zero Hypothesis" at Bozlu Art Project. This book, serving as an "alternative journal," represents the artist's first attempt to put into writing the imaginative paintings that linger in the minds of art enthusiasts, creating collages of images across different times. Known for his friendships within the art and literary circles during his years in Turkey, Utku Varlık embarks on a whimsical journey in his book "Zero Hypothesis: Fragments," placing the central character Roby Zober at the core of his stories, just like in his paintings. The book unfolds lived experiences, tales of legendary personalities from the 1960s Academy to the gatherings at Niyazi, Cihat Burak to Hayalet Oğuz, Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu to Avni Arbaş, Edip Cansever to Aziz Çalışlar. These narratives include conversations at tavern tables, painterly friendships, dialogues with literature and cinema, hitchhiking adventures, Paris in the 1970s, museums and cities that were only dreamed of, the specter of famous painters looming over an artist's head like Damocles' sword, colors, scents, fears, and flavors.
